Reflection from Anne for Good Friday

“In you, O Lord, I take refuge” (Ps 31:2) Many storms seem to be raging around us at this time: thunderstorms, tornadoes, corona virus, economic troubles, cancellation of activities and so on. We need places of refuge. For most of us, our homes are our refuge where we spend most of time now. But we, on this day, are invited to take refuge in the Lord on this darkest of days for Christians.

Stripped, scourged, paraded, jeered. Imagine walking with Jesus and feeling the weight he carries to Golgotha. Not only the weight of the cross but the expectations. Walk with Jesus today. Take refuge with him for a while.

Hung on the cross, the thirst he has before giving up his spirit. Take refuge with him for a while.

Jesus is carrying the weight of the storms we face. He died for us so we can be reunited with the Father. He is the path; he showed us the way. When we walk this Way with Jesus we can say, “You are my God.” With him, we can weather whatever comes in our path.

Today’s psalm ends “Take courage and be stouthearted, all you who hope in the Lord.” (v.25) We hope in Jesus because we know Easter is right around the corner and He will rise just as we will rise.

And conquer these storms.
